Check it out… Williamsburg’s Northside Festival 2013
Small Girls <3’s Brooklyn. It is home to many smart, creative, innovative, thoughtful, interesting, and fun people. Starting tomorrow, the best borough will be showing them all off at the 8th annual Northside Festival! One part tech conference, on part film festival, and one part rockin’ concert Northside is an amazing celebration of the brilliance happening all around us every day.
This Northside, we worked on the technology portion of the event, NeXT, helping to identify panel opportunities and fill the stage with innovative speakers as well as arranged invitations for local thinkers, writers, and founders to learn and exchange ideas with conference participants. The greater NYC tech community has many gems of wisdom to share and leaders from Shapeways, Warby Parker, OMGPop and others will take us through disruptive new business solutions, down the road to acquisition, and explore the changing pace of making in America all through the lens of New York City’s creative communities. The full event schedule & list of speakers can be viewed here!
Looking for a good summer read? We’ve got the perfect book on our client list to inspire your beach bod diet and fill your chick lit fix!
The tale of a vegan chef who falls for a meat loving steakhouse restaurateur. Can you say complicated? Watch as the blacklisted sous chef builds an empire out of her healthy living lifestyle all while tangled in a web of boyfriend drama.
Author Kim Barnouin’s first novel, Skinny Bitch in Love, was released YESTERDAY 6/4 by Simon & Schuster. The publishing house is a client of ours and since Skinny Bitch focuses on independent women cutting the crap out of their lives, it’s no wonder it’s Small Girls approved. It even got bacon loving Bianca wanting to try to be vegan (some days).
Check it out and let us know what you think (and if you’re a book blogger, vegan writer, or chick lit lover, shoot us a message to join the SGPR Skinny Bitch book club- we may be able to send you a copy).
100,000,000! Is that the number of people waiting in line to see the Banana Stand at Yankee stadium? Nope. Is it the amount of money spent on buying Barbies in 2013? Probably not. It is, in fact, the number of RSVPs that Meetup.com is celebrating this week!!!
The 10 year old NYC startup has more than 13.7 million members and is in nearly 200 countries. Connecting people is serious business- certainly one that we love to do ourselves. We’re so excited to be celebrating their 100 millionth RSVP milestone tonight, with the first summer rooftop party of the season! (Seriously, we’re very excited for this warm weather and sausages.)
What better way to travel than with shoes made up of adventure and love?
We Small Girls do a lot of traveling, and we needed the perfect spring sneakers to handle our quick trips and sassy style. That’s where our friends (and new client!) Portovelo comes in-
After searching the world (all 7 continents) the makers of Portovelo created the perfect travel shoe. Good for your feet and your style. These cute little slippers have more to them than meets the eye though- with their “Miles to Meals, one step at a time” philanthropy program, Portovelo provides 15 meals to hungry children in need with every purchase of shoes.
The Santorini White, Chealsea Red, London Slate and Pacific Blue harken some of the great places one can travel to- but don’t let your feet or imagination stop you there.
We’re excited to have taken these shoes to LA and Miami and soon to Morocco, Vegas, and Vienna. Woo!
In the spirit of SXSWi providing a place for big brands and creative technologists to come together and drive innovation, we arranged GE’s “Brilliant Brunch” hosted by CMO Beth Comstock rounded out by six tech luminaries.
In the food for thought vein, we designed each course of the meal to correspond to a topic on innovation moderated by The Onion’s Baratunde Thurston. The starter meal corresponded to questions about early motivations while the post-meal espresso begged the fuel to keep innovating.
Above is just one of the snippets between Vimeo’s Jake Lodwick, Makerbot’s Bre Pettis, OK Go’s Damian Kulash, robot designer Carla Diana and Tumblr’s David Karp as they sat down for a brilliant brunch.
Shot in the Favreau “dinner for 5” vein, this clip catches the attendees talking about great art in the context of social networks, the new definition of media, and how we’re all making 1s and 0s that in turn make brilliant products.
We’re excited to kick off Music Monday at Cory Vines, with a playlist created to get you just as excited as we are for our upcoming launch. Get ready to start the week with this mix, as we gear up in the next couple of weeks to start our Cory Vines adventure early March!
Check out this mix on @8tracks: “Cory Vines Ready To Start”
We’re ready to start with this mix by our new client, Cory Vines. Perfect for your workout- whether that be going to the gym, dancing (in your seat), riding your bike around brooklyn, etc!
