We were so bummed that the Nemo blizzard foiled our plans to get our 3-D jewelry action on at the Ace Hotel during #NYFW, but we’re happy to announce that the event has been rescheduled to this Saturday, March 2nd!
If you want to check out what happens when 10 accessories designers are paired with creative technologists to create sustainable 3-d designs forged out of nylon powder, this is the time to do it.
This Saturday (March 2nd), local designers in the vein of In God We Trust, Chris Habana, and Ten Thousand Things, will pair up with CAD designers to imagine and create new jewelry designs using printers from Makerbot at the Ace Hotel.
Custom printing will be available on-site all day, and the open flea will feature designers ranging from Anna Sheffield to Ursa Major so there’s bound to be some cool pieces in store as well.
Be sure to get there by 2pm for the symposium on 3-d printing and fashion’s future; Michael Schmidt (who has dressed luminaries from Lady Gaga to Rihanna to Madonna), Brooks Hagan, and the evangelists from Shapeways and Makerbot will all speak on the panel.
See you at the machines!
3-D Printing Event at The Ace Hotel // NYFW Feb 9th
We’ve sort of had an obsession over the amazing things one can do with 3-D printing these days… jewelry, shoes, replicas of people’s heads (we want one of us). It’s such a great convergence between fashion, technology, and creation.
We are so excited to post about this event that the Ace Hotel is doing- pairing some of our favorite indie designers with CAD artists to create customizable pieces for NYFW. Come by between 1-5 PM to check out the designs, and for the chance to order your own 3-D printed piece.
This Fall Fashion Week — Saturday, February 9 — Ace Hotel New York partners with Shapeways to present an interactive encounter of technology and design that explores how digital technology can revolutionize the future of fashion — with Michael Schmidt, Material ConneXion and some of today’s most forward-thinking CAD artists and analog jewelry designers.
It’s like Nylon Magazine took Small Girls’ list of favorite things and put it in one place for their New Years Rave collection. From cupcake earrings, unicorn rings, shiny skirts (perfect to twirl in), pink pink pink, ice cream sweatshirts.. and basically anything else we would wear or use. We’re into it.
